Josep Borrell, the chief of EU foreign policy, is scheduled to visit Lebanon for three days starting Friday.
His itinerary includes meetings with several key Lebanese figures: Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, acting Prime Minister Najib Mikati, interim Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib, and the Commander of the Lebanese Army, General Joseph Aoun.
Borrell’s visit will also feature an interaction with General Aroldo Lazaro, the Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
According to a statement released by the European Union’s Delegation in Lebanon, Borrell’s discussions in Lebanon will cover a range of topics. These include the situation in and around Gaza and its implications for the region, particularly the Israeli-Lebanese border. Additionally, the dialogue will focus on preventing regional conflicts from escalating and ensuring continued humanitarian aid to civilians, an effort to which the EU has significantly increased its contribution to €100 million.
Moreover, Borrell aims to reinforce the urgency of diplomatic engagement with regional leaders to foster conditions conducive to achieving a fair and enduring peace in the area.
The talks will also delve into bilateral cooperation and address both domestic and regional issues of concern, as noted by the EU Delegation.
