The European Union has reached a consensus among its member states to provide Ukraine with 50 billion euros in financial assistance. This agreement was achieved during a critical summit in Brussels, despite initial resistance from Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
European Council President Charles Michel confirmed the deal on X (previously known as Twitter), expressing the unity among all 27 EU leaders. He emphasized that this package would be incorporated into the EU budget, ensuring substantial, consistent, and long-term support for Ukraine.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal, who had witnessed Hungary initially obstructing the agreement, welcomed the resolution. Expressing gratitude to the member states on social media, Shmygal regarded this financial aid as a vital contribution towards their collective triumph. He underscored that this decision exemplifies the solidarity and unity within the 27-nation bloc.
