Teenage striker Endrick scored a dramatic injury-time header to secure a 3-2 victory for Brazil over Mexico in a warm-up friendly ahead of this month’s Copa America.
The match, held at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas, saw Brazil initially dominate with goals from Fulham’s Andreas Pereira and Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli, giving them a 2-0 lead.
However, Mexico mounted a surprising comeback late in the game. Julian Quinones reduced the deficit with a goal in the 73rd minute. Then, Guillermo Martinez appeared to have equalized for Mexico in the third minute of added time, capitalizing on a rebound from his own header following a corner to level the score at 2-2.
Just as Mexico regrouped, Brazil struck again. Vinicius Jr delivered a precise cross from the left side into the penalty area, where Endrick, his new Real Madrid teammate, expertly headed the ball past Mexican goalkeeper Julio Gonzalez, sealing the 3-2 win for Brazil.
This victory extends Brazil’s unbeaten streak under new coach Dorival Junior. The team previously secured a 1-0 win against England at Wembley in March and played to a 3-3 draw with Spain.
Brazil’s next challenge is a friendly against the United States in Orlando on Wednesday, their final match before starting their Copa America campaign against Costa Rica on June 24.
