The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards are finally here, delayed by four months due to various industry disruptions, including strikes, streaming shifts, and the transformation of the traditional TV calendar. Hosted by Anthony Anderson, the ceremony will unveil winners that were decided months ago, featuring shows that may have been completed years ago with a smaller audience than in the past.
Actor Nick Offerman, who won an early Emmy for “The Last of Us,” acknowledges the changing norms in the industry, with delays between production and release becoming commonplace.
Despite the industry’s challenges, the Emmys aim to celebrate its 75th edition by connecting with TV history. The ceremony will include cast reunions and scene recreations from beloved shows like “Cheers,” “Game of Thrones,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “Martin.”
HBO continues its dominance with the most nominations this year, including shows like “Succession,” “The White Lotus,” and “The Last of Us.”
Host Anthony Anderson, relieved not to be a nominee this year, is set to host the event, taking on the role at a time when hosting awards shows is less coveted.
“Succession” leads with 27 nominations, while “The Last of Us” follows closely with 24 nominations. “Ted Lasso” is expected to perform well in the comedy category.
Due to last year’s strikes and scheduling changes, the winners were determined in late August, creating unique award circumstances. For example, “The Bear” is nominated for its first season, having already won Golden Globes for its second season.
The Emmys will air live on Fox, and streaming will be available on Hulu. The red carpet event begins at 5 p.m., with various streaming options for viewers to watch.
