Elsa, Anna, and Olaf are set to return as the release date for *Frozen 3* has been announced. The highly anticipated third installment of the *Frozen* franchise will hit theaters in 2027. Although it was initially expected to release in November 2026, the new release date was revealed at the D23 Expo.
*Frozen 3* will kick off a two-part story that continues into *Frozen 4*. Concept art shared at D23 shows Elsa, Anna, and Olaf journeying toward a brightly lit, floating city, with the shadow of a mysterious horned figure looming behind them.
According to reports, *Frozen 3* is now scheduled for a theatrical release on November 24, 2027, just in time for Thanksgiving. This aligns with the franchise’s previous release pattern, as the first *Frozen* premiered on November 27, 2013, and *Frozen 2* on November 22, 2019. The gap between *Frozen 3* and *Frozen 4* will be the shortest yet between installments in the franchise.
Will Disney Reclaim Its Box Office Crown?
Disney has been facing challenges in maintaining its dominance at the box office since the release of *Frozen 2* in 2019, which grossed $1.45 billion. Subsequent Disney films have not matched this level of success.
However, Disney is positioning itself to regain the Thanksgiving weekend box office with *Moana 2* set for Thanksgiving 2024, *Zootopia 2* in 2025, and now *Frozen 3* in 2027.
Given the massive success of the previous films, their lasting popularity, and the high anticipation for these sequels, they are expected to perform exceptionally well during their Thanksgiving openings and throughout their extended box office runs.
The recent success of *Inside Out 2*, which grossed $1.5 billion, demonstrates that audiences are eager for well-executed animated sequels. *Moana 2*, *Zootopia 2*, and *Frozen 3* all have the potential to rival or even surpass *Inside Out 2* at the box office, considering the strong performance of these franchises.
