Chelsea vs Bournemouth Prediction: 14/1/2025

Chelsea, under the management of Enzo Maresca, have shown improvement this season after disappointing campaigns in the past two years. Although out of contention for the Premier League title, they are firmly in the hunt for Champions League qualification. Currently sitting 4th in the league with a slim lead over 5th place, Chelsea’s recent form has been shaky, going four games without a win. They suffered defeats against Fulham (1-2) and Ipswich (0-2) while drawing with Everton (0-0) and Crystal Palace (1-1). Last weekend, the Blues played Morecambe in the FA Cup.

Bournemouth, on the other hand, have been exceeding expectations this season. They currently sit in 7th place in the Premier League, just three points behind Chelsea. Securing European qualification would be a significant achievement for the Cherries. Bournemouth are in fine form, having gone unbeaten in their last eight league games, with five wins and three draws. Recent results include a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace, a 2-2 stalemate with Fulham, and a 1-0 victory over Everton. Last weekend, they faced West Bromwich in the FA Cup.

Chelsea head into this match with several absentees. Defenders Wesley Fofana and Benoît Badiashile, along with midfielder Romeo Lavia, are sidelined with injuries. Less frequently used players Chukwuemeka, Dewsbury-Hall, and Kellyman are also unavailable, while Mykhailo Mudryk is suspended for doping. Despite these setbacks, Cole Palmer, who has been in excellent form with 13 goals and 6 assists in the league, is expected to play a key role, supporting striker Nicolas Jackson (9 goals and 3 assists). French international Christopher Nkunku, who has contributed sparingly with 2 goals, may also feature.

Bournemouth are also dealing with injuries, with defenders Marcos Senesi, Adam Smith, and Araujo out, alongside backup forward Enes Ünal. The availability of wingers Luis Sinisterra and Marcus Tavernier, as well as midfielder Scott, is uncertain. Despite these challenges, Bournemouth can rely on their attacking options, including Dango Ouattara (3 goals, 3 assists), Justin Kluivert (6 goals, 2 assists), Antoine Semenyo (5 goals, 2 assists), and Evanilson (5 goals).

Prediction

Chelsea’s inconsistency at home has been evident, with three wins, four draws, and three losses in their last ten Premier League matches, all of which featured under 3.5 goals. Similarly, Bournemouth’s last ten away games in the league have also seen three or fewer goals scored. This trend points to a closely contested match.

Prediction: Chelsea 1-1 Bournemouth.
