Miami Open: Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev Reach Quarterfinals

Carlos Alcaraz, the Indian Wells champion, continued his quest for a Sunshine Double by securing a spot in the Miami Open quarter-finals for the third consecutive year with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Lorenzo Musetti on Tuesday. The Spanish player showcased his dominance, needing less than 90 minutes to defeat the 23rd-seeded Italian. Alcaraz displayed his prowess with powerful forehands and effective net play, winning 18 out of 22 points when he approached the net.

Alcaraz swiftly broke Musettiโ€™s serve at the beginning of the match and secured another break to comfortably clinch the first set against his opponent. Although Musetti managed to secure his first break of the match to level the score at 4-3 in the second set, Alcaraz quickly regained control, breaking back in the following game and sealing the victory when Musettiโ€™s shot landed in the net on match point. Despite Musettiโ€™s impressive moments, including a stunning tweener lob over Alcarazโ€™s head, it was Alcaraz who emerged victorious.

Reflecting on his performance, Alcaraz expressed his confidence, stating that he is currently feeling his best on the court and has overcome previous ankle injury concerns. In the upcoming quarter-finals, Alcaraz will face Grigor Dimitrov, the 11th seed, who secured his spot with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(3) victory over Hubert Hurkacz of Poland.

Meanwhile, Daniil Medvedev, the third seed, advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating Dominik Koepfer of Germany 7-6(5), 6-0. Medvedev, aiming to retain a title for the first time in his career, overcame a shaky start to secure a straight-set victory. He will face Nicolas Jarry of Chile in the next round. Additionally, unseeded players like Tomas Machac and Fabian Marozsan continued their impressive runs, setting up intriguing matches against top-seeded opponents in the quarter-finals.
