Car blast kills one in Damascus

An explosion in Damascus on Saturday resulted in one fatality, according to Syria’s official news agency, SANA, which did not disclose the victim’s identity.

Damascus, the capital of war-torn Syria, occasionally experiences security incidents, including explosions targeting both military and civilian vehicles.

SANA, citing a police official, reported that “an explosive device detonated in a car in the Mazzeh district, killing one person.” No additional information was provided.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based organization monitoring the war with on-ground sources, noted that three vehicles caught fire due to the explosion.

This incident occurs amidst rising regional tensions, notably the conflict between Israel and the Iran-supported Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza.

Just last month, SANA reported another explosion involving an explosive device in a car in the upscale Mazzeh neighborhood, which fortunately did not result in any casualties.

Since the onset of Syria’s civil war in 2011, Israel has conducted numerous air strikes within Syria, targeting Iran-backed forces, including Lebanon’s Hezbollah, and Syrian military positions.
