Canada Promises Support for South Lebanon Reconstruction

Stefanie McCollum, Canada’s Ambassador to Lebanon, expressed her support for the Lebanese government’s newly announced plan to ensure stability in the southern region of the country.

In an interview with LBCI television, McCollum explained that the plan involves the Lebanese Army (LAF) taking charge of security in the south. She emphasized Canada’s ongoing collaboration with the LAF, which includes providing training, equipment, and capacity-building support. McCollum expressed confidence that the LAF would be capable of securing the southern region and maintaining the borders on behalf of Lebanon in the long term.

Regarding the reconstruction of towns that have been destroyed in southern Lebanon, McCollum stated, “We are waiting to see the specific plan that the Lebanese government will propose for reconstruction.” She also reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to being a leading donor in assisting Lebanon with the implementation of these reconstruction plans, as it has been in the past.
