Bitar requests documents from Abbas Ibrahim and Tony Saliba

The Lebanese Army has initiated a discreet operation to enter specific Hezbollah installations located north of the Litani River. This move aligns with the stipulations of the recent ceasefire agreement, which mandates Hezbollah’s withdrawal from areas south of the river and the Lebanese Army’s assumption of control in these regions.

While the exact locations of these bases remain undisclosed, reports indicate that the army has already seized ammunition from a site in the Bekaa Valley previously targeted by Israeli forces.

The process is being carried out cautiously to prevent any potential clashes. Notably, there have been no reported confrontations between the Lebanese Army and Hezbollah during these operations. This development follows Hezbollah’s internal directive for its operatives to vacate areas south of the Litani River, facilitating the army’s deployment in accordance with the ceasefire terms.

The Lebanese Army’s actions are seen as a step towards reasserting state authority in regions previously under Hezbollah’s influence.

This operation is part of a broader effort to implement the ceasefire agreement fully, which includes the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon and the establishment of a demilitarized zone monitored by the Lebanese Army and UN peacekeepers. The success of these measures is crucial for maintaining stability in the region and preventing the resurgence of hostilities.
