Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has expressed optimism about the likelihood of achieving a ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, stating that the chances now exceed 50 percent. He noted that U.S. mediator Amos Hochstein has received approval from U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to continue the negotiation process.
In an interview with *ad-Diyar* newspaper, Berri revealed that he plans to announce his official position on Hochstein’s latest ceasefire proposal next week.
Berri emphasized that Lebanon remains firm in rejecting any changes or additions to U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701. He also highlighted that a regional ceasefire could create an opportunity to address Lebanon’s presidential file. Once a ceasefire is secured, Berri intends to call for a session to elect the country’s next president.
