Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri emphasized that the presidential election is a domestic constitutional matter and is unrelated to the ongoing situations in Gaza or southern Lebanon caused by Israeli aggression.
In a speech commemorating the 46th anniversary of the disappearance of Imam Moussa al-Sadr and his two companions, Berri stated, “We were the first to urge all political and parliamentary factions to take advantage of the current regional circumstances to swiftly resolve the presidential issue, strictly following the constitution and through collective consultations, without imposing conditions or vetoes on anyone.”
Berri reiterated his previous proposal from August 31 of last year, calling for open dialogue or consultations over several days, followed by consecutive electoral rounds. He suggested that all parties agree not to undermine the session by depriving it of quorum.
He concluded by stating that Lebanon and its people “deserve a unifying president during this crucial period in the nation’s history.”
