Speaker Nabih Berri recently convened with Hussein Khalil, the political aide to the secretary-general of Hezbollah, to discuss a new proposal for resolving the Israel-Hezbollah border conflict, according to MTV. During the meeting, Berri presented Khalil with a document from France outlining potential solutions and remarked on the proposal’s merit, suggesting it warranted careful consideration.
MTV reported that Hezbollah responded positively to the French proposal, particularly appreciating the replacement of the term “withdrawal” with “redeployment” regarding their positions south of the Litani River—a term previously employed by U.S. mediator Amos Hochstein.
The proposal outlined in the French and U.S. documents calls for Israel to completely withdraw from seven contested border points and to partially withdraw from others, leaving the issue of the Shebaa Farms unresolved for the time being. This nuanced approach seems to be acceptable to Hezbollah, per the network’s coverage.
