Bayern Munich in talks with Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso

Bayern Munich is actively pursuing Xabi Alonso, currently managing Bayer Leverkusen, as their next head coach. With Leverkusen poised to break Bayern’s 11-year Bundesliga winning streak by holding a 10-point lead with just 10 matches left, Alonso’s impeccable record this season, remaining unbeaten, has caught the attention of major clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester United.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, there’s speculation that Alonso’s next move would be to Bayern Munich rather than a return to Liverpool, citing the daunting challenge of living up to Jurgen Klopp’s legacy at Liverpool as a significant factor.

Alonso, highly sought after for his managerial skills, emerges as a prime candidate for Bayern Munich and Liverpool, with both clubs on the lookout for a new manager after the season concludes. Thomas Tuchel’s tenure at Bayern Munich is ending amid struggles, leaving Bayern trailing behind Leverkusen in the league and facing challenges in the Champions League.

Liverpool, too, is eyeing Alonso, who has a strong connection with the club from his playing days, including a Champions League victory in 2005. With Klopp planning to depart, Liverpool sees Alonso as a potential managerial recruit.

Manchester United is also keeping tabs on Alonso, given their disappointing season and uncertainty around manager Erik ten Hag’s future. The club’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League are dim, placing them in the market for a new manager.

While Barcelona and Chelsea are also interested in Alonso, his previous ties with Real Madrid and Chelsea’s current difficulties make these options less likely. Alonso’s success at Leverkusen has made him a hot commodity in the managerial market.
