Bangladesh has launched an official inquiry into the team’s underwhelming performance at the Cricket World Cup

The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced on Wednesday that a special three-member committee, including former captain Akram Khan, has been established to investigate Bangladesh’s lackluster performance in the recent World Cup.

During the one-day tournament held in India in October-November, Bangladesh secured only two victories and suffered seven losses, ranking them eighth among the 10 participating teams.

This committee is tasked with examining the reasons behind the team’s poor showing. This World Cup marked Bangladesh’s worst performance since 2003, when they didn’t win any matches. In contrast, they had achieved three wins in each of the subsequent four World Cups (2007, 2011, 2015, and 2019).

The team’s underachievement was particularly disappointing given the high expectations in Bangladesh, especially after their third-place finish in the ICC Super League, trailing only New Zealand and England.

Bangladesh’s World Cup campaign started with a victory over Afghanistan but was followed by six straight defeats, effectively ending their chances of reaching the semi-finals.

The tournament concluded with Australia defeating India, the host nation, in the final.
