On Tuesday, an attack by Ukrainian forces in the Crimean port town of Feodosia resulted in one fatality and two injuries, according to Sergei Aksyonov, the governor of the Russian-occupied territory. Aksyonov announced on Telegram that the attack also damaged six buildings, leading to the evacuation of residents, but transportation infrastructure remained operational.
The Ukrainian air force reported that they had destroyed a Russian fleet ship near Feodosia, believed to be transporting drones for use in the conflict with Kyiv.
Aksyonov confirmed that the port area had been secured following the incident. Ukraine has frequently targeted Russian military installations in Crimea, including the sinking of the cruiser Moskva, the Black Sea fleet’s flagship, in April 2022.
Russia’s Defense Ministry acknowledged that the landing ship Novocherkassk was struck by plane-launched guided missiles at a base in Feodosia. During this attack, Russia claimed to have destroyed two Ukrainian fighter jets with anti-aircraft fire.
Ukrainian forces have been conducting attacks in and around Crimea, mainly using sea drones. President Volodymyr Zelensky attributes these attacks to Ukraine’s ability to resume Black Sea navigation and export millions of tons of grain.
While the extent of damage to the Russian ship remains unclear, videos shared on Ukrainian channels depicted a large fire in the port area.
Ukrainian air force Cmdr. Mykola Oleschuk mockingly stated that the Russian fleet had been reduced and advised Russians to leave Crimea, which was annexed by Russia in 2014. The air force did not confirm if any of their planes were shot down during the attack.
In a recent report, the Ukrainian presidential office noted that Russia had launched 18 drones against the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions in the past day, with 13 being intercepted. The remaining drones caused damage to infrastructure but did not result in any casualties.
