Champions League: Arsenal Overcomes PSG, Dortmund Crushes Celtic

Arsenal secured a 2-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in a key Champions League match on Tuesday, while Borussia Dortmund delivered a stark 7-1 defeat to Celtic in Germany. This round of matches also saw dominant performances from Barcelona, Manchester City, and Inter Milan, with Champions League newcomers Brest impressively defeating Red Bull Salzburg 4-0.

In London, the spotlight was on the Arsenal vs. PSG game, marking the second round of matches in the revamped format of Europe’s premier club competition. Arsenal emerged as deserving victors, with Kai Havertz heading in a cross from Leandro Trossard to initiate the scoring 20 minutes into the game. Bukayo Saka expanded the lead before halftime with a free-kick that bypassed all defenders.

Despite attempts from PSG, with Nuno Mendes and Joao Neves hitting the woodwork in each half, the French club couldn’t overturn their deficit. This victory marked Arsenal’s first win in this season’s Champions League, following a goalless draw against Atalanta.

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance in an interview with Amazon Prime, noting their adept handling of the Champions League’s unique challenges.

Elsewhere, Dortmund topped the league standings after a resounding victory over Celtic, spearheaded by Karim Adeyemi’s first-half hat-trick. Dortmund had already taken a significant lead by halftime, setting the stage for a record-equalling win.

Barcelona bounced back from recent setbacks with a 5-0 thrashing of Young Boys, highlighted by a pair of goals from Robert Lewandowski. Manchester City also cruised to a 4-0 victory over Slovan Bratislava, and Inter Milan matched that scoreline against Red Star Belgrade with goals from Hakan Calhanoglu, Marko Arnautovic, Lautaro Martinez, and Mehdi Taremi.

Bayer Leverkusen continued their winning streak with a narrow 1-0 win over AC Milan, thanks to a goal from Victor Boniface.

In a surprising turn, French club Brest achieved their second consecutive Champions League win by beating Salzburg 4-0, fueled by two goals from Abdallah Sima and additional strikes from Mahdi Camara and Mathias Pereira Lage.

The early standings see Salzburg, Slovan Bratislava, and Young Boys at the bottom, while other matches saw VfB Stuttgart and Sparta Prague draw 1-1, and PSV Eindhoven and Sporting Lisbon also ended their game with a 1-1 score.
