Aoun says Lebanon committed to reforms and Hezbollah disarmament

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun announced on Monday that the country remains committed to critical reforms and the eventual disarmament of Hezbollah. He revealed that preparations are underway to establish a comprehensive national security strategy, with discussions expected to begin in the near future.

Speaking on the sensitive issue of Hezbollahโ€™s weapons, Aoun emphasized that Lebanon needs both time and stability to tackle the matter effectively. He reaffirmed that any resolution would come through internal dialogue, noting that Hezbollah remains an integral part of Lebanonโ€™s social and political fabric.

Aoun also pointed to ongoing tensions in southern Lebanon, especially Israelโ€™s continued occupation of strategic hilltop areas, which he said only complicates efforts to resolve the broader security issues.

Highlighting the importance of national consensus, Aoun explained that while differences of opinion exist among Lebanese factions, this diversity of thought is fundamental to democracy. He stressed the need for open discussion and cooperation, stating that the forthcoming national security strategy will pave the way for a unified defense framework designed to protect Lebanonโ€™s sovereignty and promote internal stability.
