In a recent meeting with Lebanon’s Speaker Nabih Berri, representatives from a five-nation group did not put forward any specific initiatives or endorse a presidential candidate, according to a source familiar with the discussions.
The source, who spoke to al-Joumhouria newspaper, revealed that the group’s ambassadors emphasized their supportive role. They encouraged Lebanese decision-makers to choose their candidates through consultations, with the backing and assistance of the five-nation group. This was reported in the newspaper on Wednesday.
Other sources closely monitoring the situation told the daily that the group has urged Lebanese officials to engage in meaningful dialogue and reach a consensus on a presidential candidate without further delay, considering the current regional context.
Separately, sources from Berri’s parliamentary bloc shared with Asharq al-Awsat newspaper the importance of reaching a resolution on the presidential issue. They emphasized the need to address this matter independently of the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
