All Star Game 2024: East Dominates, Sets Record with 211-186 Win

Damian Lillard’s stunning 39-point performance steered the Eastern Conference to a historic win over the Western Conference with a score of 211-186 in the 73rd NBA All-Star Game, setting a new record for the highest points scored by a single team in an All-Star Game. The previous record was held by the West with 196 points in 2016.

Jaylen Brown from Boston contributed 36 points from the bench, and Tyrese Haliburton of Indiana added 32, fueling the East’s record-breaking victory. Lillard, who showcased his shooting prowess with 11 three-pointers from 23 attempts and two half-court shots, was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, the East captain and 2021 MVP, anticipated Lillard’s exceptional performance and emphasized the team’s enjoyable and competitive spirit throughout the game. The event was filled with remarkable dunks, passes, and shooting from the world’s top players, captivating the sold-out Indianapolis crowd.

Karl-Anthony Towns from Minnesota scored a game-high 50 points for the West, with 31 in the final quarter, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Oklahoma City contributed 31 points, albeit in defeat.

The game set a new combined scoring record with 397 points, breaking the previous record by 23 points. The East’s sharpshooting was on full display, hitting 42 three-pointers, surpassing the previous record set by Team LeBron in 2019, and shooting 56.8% from the field.

Highlight moments included Lillard’s mid-court shot in the third quarter and a significant scoring run that secured the East a 24-point lead entering the final quarter. Haliburton’s three-pointer brought the East to 200 points, marking a milestone in the game.

Despite a strong start, the West couldn’t keep up, with the East leading by 15 points at halftime. LeBron James, making his record 20th All-Star appearance, scored eight points but sat out the second half due to an ankle injury. Injuries sidelined Joel Embiid and Julius Randle for the East, with Trae Young and Scottie Barnes stepping in as replacements.
