Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi raised concerns during his Sunday Mass sermon about the issues posed by the Syrian refugees and “illegal” immigrants residing in Lebanon. He pointed out that the regions in Syria considered safe are now larger than Lebanon itself.
Patriarch al-Rahi expressed disappointment with the lack of international cooperation, particularly from European and other global nations, in assisting Lebanon to address the refugee situation and facilitate their return. He criticized these countries for politically exploiting the refugee crisis in Syria.
He also warned of the severe implications of this burden on Lebanon, suggesting that the neglect could foster criminal and terrorist activities that might ultimately pose a threat to these very nations before affecting others.
