Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides is set to embark on a visit to Lebanon this Monday, accompanied by a ministerial team.
During his brief stay, Christodoulides is scheduled to hold discussions with Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.
Ahead of this visit, Christodoulides appealed to the leader of the European Union’s executive branch, requesting intervention with Lebanese officials to prevent the departure of Syrian refugees in boats towards Cyprus, an island in the eastern Mediterranean.
He indicated that the European Union is prepared to offer additional financial support to Lebanon, which currently hosts a significant number of refugees. However, Christodoulides emphasized that such support is contingent upon Lebanon’s commitment to preventing migrants from embarking on journeys to Cyprus.
