LF demands FPM halt Hezbollah support for convergence

On Monday, the Lebanese Forces issued a statement declaring their inability to align with the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) as long as the latter continues its support for Hezbollah.

The statement acknowledged ongoing communications with the FPM, which have led to a mutual presidential candidate. However, it emphasized that true alignment demands national consensus based on a sovereign outlook, a condition that remains unmet.

During an annual conference on Sunday, FPM leader Jebran Bassil appealed to Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi to unite Christian leaders. Nonetheless, the Lebanese Forces highlighted a key point of contention: Bassil’s consistent support for what he terms as the resistance defending Lebanon, a stance they fundamentally oppose.

The Lebanese Forces insist that any potential reconciliation is contingent upon Bassil publicly demanding Hezbollah disarm. They argue that the Lebanese populace desires the establishment of a “real state,” a goal obstructed by Hezbollah’s activities.
