On Wednesday, Hezbollah launched a suicide drone attack on the Metula post as a retaliatory measure against what it described as Israeli assaults on southern villages and civilian homes.
In retaliation, Israeli forces conducted artillery bombardments on the outskirts of al-Fardees and Rashaya al-Fokhar, and airstrikes targeted the southern Lebanese town of Yaroun.
This escalation followed a series of attacks by Hezbollah on Israeli border military positions on Tuesday. These attacks were in reaction to an Israeli airstrike on a residence in Houla, resulting in the deaths of a family of three. Hezbollah mourned the loss of Hassan Hussein and his 25-year-old son, Ali Hussein, referring to their deaths as a sacrifice “on the road to Jerusalem,” a term used to honor Hezbollah members killed by Israeli forces.
The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel has intensified, with frequent deadly exchanges across the border since the outbreak of hostilities in Gaza in October.
The violence has led to the deaths of at least 302 individuals in Lebanon, predominantly Hezbollah combatants, along with at least 50 civilians, as per an AFP compilation of casualties.
In Israel, the conflict has resulted in the fatalities of at least 10 soldiers and seven civilians.
