Manchester United Sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves in Blockbuster Deal

Manchester United has officially completed its first transfer of the summer window by securing Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 26-year-old attacker has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League club, with the deal reportedly valued at $84 million. The announcement was made on Sunday, June 1, through the club’s official social media channels.

United had shown interest in Cunha since the January transfer period, and the agreement marks a significant step in what is expected to be a major squad restructuring. According to the club’s statement, the transfer remains subject to visa approval and final registration procedures.

Cunha Brings International and Top-Flight Experience

Cunha joins United with a wealth of experience across multiple European leagues. Over the course of his professional career, the Brazilian forward has amassed 270 appearances and scored 72 goals while playing in England, Spain, Germany, and Switzerland. He also holds 13 caps for Brazil’s senior national team, adding international pedigree to his résumé.

The forward is expected to fill the gap left by Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford, both of whom are likely to depart Old Trafford this summer. Sancho spent part of the previous season on loan at Chelsea, while Rashford was loaned to Aston Villa. Neither is expected to return to United’s first-team plans under the new managerial structure.

United’s 2024–25 campaign ended in disappointment, with the club finishing 15th in the Premier League and falling short in the Europa League final, where they were defeated by Tottenham Hotspur. The result denied them qualification for the UEFA Champions League and left the club without European football for the first time in over a decade, a setback not experienced since the 2014–15 season.
