Report: Paris suggests French troops replace Israelis on five occupied hills

France has reportedly put forward a diplomatic initiative that aims to de-escalate tensions in southern Lebanon by replacing Israeli troops with peacekeeping forces from its UNIFIL contingent. This proposal specifically targets the five strategic hills that remain under Israeli control.

According to informed sources, France is aligned with Lebanon’s position on establishing a timetable to address the issue of Hezbollah’s armed presence. As part of the broader effort to stabilize the region, Paris also wants the existing ceasefire supervision committee to facilitate discussions related to both the delineation of the land border and the fate of detainees held by each side.

Although the committee’s formal meetings have been paused for the past two weeks, its work reportedly continues informally. France is actively engaging with both Israel and the United States to push for a political and diplomatic resolution, rather than allowing the situation to slide into further military conflict.
