Jumblat Urges Security Agencies to Wake Up

Lebanese Druze leader Walid Jumblatt has called on the country’s security agencies to intensify their efforts in apprehending former regime officials who are reportedly fleeing the country. In a post on the X platform, Jumblatt noted that while the Lebanese Foreign Ministry has recently engaged with Syria’s new administration, the security agencies have yet to take action against these individuals. He questioned whether the security forces could “wake up” and arrest the senior officials who are crossing the border and fleeing through the airport.

This statement follows Jumblatt’s recent visit to Damascus, where he met with Syria’s new leadership. During the meeting, Jumblatt expressed hope for the resumption of diplomatic relations between Lebanon and Syria through the establishment of embassies. He also emphasized the importance of holding accountable those responsible for crimes against the Lebanese people and called for fair trials for all perpetrators.

Jumblatt’s remarks highlight ongoing concerns about the accountability of former regime officials and the need for proactive measures by security agencies to address these issues.
