Roma vs Braga Prediction: 12/12/2024

AS Roma is finding it difficult to secure a direct qualification for the round of 16 in the Europa League, currently ranked 21st in the league phase. Their position is precarious, with only a one-point cushion above the 25th place, which marks elimination. The Giallorossi have managed draws against Union Saint-Gilloise (1-1 at home) and Tottenham (2-2 away), but their form has dipped since November. Prior to their recent match against Lecce, they had suffered four consecutive defeats in Serie A, leaving them in 15th place.

In contrast, Braga is currently in 18th place in the Europa League phase, with two wins, one draw, and two losses. The Portuguese club, finalists in the 2010-2011 season, recently claimed a 3-0 victory over Hoffenheim and a 1-1 draw against Elfsborg. Domestically, Braga is in 5th place in Portugal’s Primeira Liga, trailing behind Sporting, Porto, and Benfica, and they were recently able to secure their fourth consecutive win, beating Estoril.

Roma has received a boost with the return of backup forward Shomurodov from their last Europa League match and hopes to have experienced defender Hermoso back after his absence since October 27. Coach Claudio Ranieri will have most of his squad available, including defenders Ndicka and Hummels, who scored in their recent draw against Tottenham. Summer signing Dovbyk has scored twice in the competition, while Dybala is available but has not been in his usual decisive form. French international Koné continues to play regularly in midfield.

For Braga, defender Oliveira and key midfielder Zalazar (who has scored six goals, including two in the league) may still be unavailable, as they were in the match against Hoffenheim. The team heavily relies on Vitor Carvalho in midfield, with João Moutinho contributing less. Ricardo Horta has yet to score in the Europa League, while Bruma is Braga’s top scorer in the competition with three goals.

Prediction

AS Roma’s Europa League form has been disappointing, with nine defeats in their last ten matches, making further progress unlikely. Braga, aiming for their first top-flight title, has been in strong form, winning nine of their 15 away games in the league this season.

Prediction: AS Roma 0 : 3 Braga
