Strikes Hit South Beirut After Hochstein Visit

Renewed airstrikes targeted southern Beirut on Thursday following warnings from the Israeli military for residents to evacuate the area.

According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, there were three intense strikes on the Haret Hreik neighborhood, adding to the three strikes that occurred in the early hours of the morning.

U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein was in Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday, attempting to negotiate a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.

During his visit to Beirut on Wednesday, Hochstein met twice with Lebanese parliament speaker Nabih Berri, who has been leading mediation efforts on behalf of Hezbollah.

After Wednesday’s meeting, Hochstein stated that they had made additional progress and that he would be traveling to Israel within a few hours to try to finalize the agreement. He expressed optimism on Tuesday, saying that ending the war was within reach.
