Pulisic Scores Stunning Goal, But Can’t Save Milan in Champions League Defeat to Liverpool

Christian Pulisic made an immediate impact in Tuesday’s Champions League showdown between Liverpool and Milan, finding the back of the net just three minutes into the game. Pulisic broke free down the right side and calmly placed his shot past Alisson, giving Milan an early advantage.

However, holding onto that lead proved difficult for Milan. In the 23rd minute, Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate equalized with a header from a corner, outjumping the Milan defense. Just before halftime, Virgil van Dijk followed suit, heading home another set-piece to put Liverpool in front.

The visitors then extended their lead in the second half when Dominik Szoboszlai scored, securing a 3-1 victory for Liverpool.

Despite the loss, Pulisic played the full 90 minutes and continued his strong form. He has now netted three goals for Milan this season, in addition to a recent goal for the U.S. men’s national team during a friendly against New Zealand.

Yunus Musah, Pulisic’s international teammate, did not see any action off the bench in this match, following his limited 16-minute appearance in Milan’s win over Venezia last weekend.

Pulisic’s goal on Tuesday was his ninth career Champions League goal and his second with AC Milan. He previously scored five goals in the competition for Chelsea, including a memorable semifinal strike against Real Madrid on the way to Chelsea’s 2021 Champions League triumph, and two for Borussia Dortmund.
