Egyptian Ambassador: Focus Shifts Back to Presidential Election

Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alaa Moussa, stated that the current focus of the five-nation group for Lebanon is on resolving the ongoing presidential crisis.

In an interview with al-Jadeed TV, Moussa explained, “We initially addressed the urgent situation stemming from the recent escalation between Israel and Hezbollah, particularly after the deadly Majdal Shams incident and the assassination of Hezbollah military chief Fouad Shukur.”

He added, “Now, our attention has shifted back to the presidential issue, and we’re working to give it momentum. A meeting of the Quintet’s ambassadors will take place once all the ambassadors return to Beirut.”

Moussa also emphasized the significance of the French efforts, mentioning the recent meeting in Riyadh between French envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian and Saudi Royal Court adviser Nizar al-Aloula. He described this as “an important step that reflects a desire to make progress.”

He concluded by stating that “the key is not in the number of initiatives, but in finding common ground among the proposed ideas to make headway on the presidential issue.”
