Paris still considers the Lebanese presidential issue to be a priority, despite the prevailing belief that it won’t be resolved until after the current Hezbollah-Israel clashes subside, according to a senior French official in Paris.
“The French embassy is actively working towards finding a solution,” the official told Annahar newspaper in comments published on Wednesday.
While the recent assassinations of Ismail Haniyeh and Fouad Shukur have shifted focus towards the ongoing security situation and conflict, Paris and its ambassador to Lebanon, Herve Magro, are making significant efforts to keep the presidential election issue at the forefront.
The source also noted that since June and July, there has been noticeable progress among political players on this matter, and a list of potential candidates is currently being discussed by all involved parties.
