A significant terror attack targeting an Army picket in a remote village of Rajouri has been successfully foiled, the Directorate of Public Relations Jammu reported on Monday, July 22.
Gunfire continues in the Gundha area of Rajouri.
The army stated that “terrorists attacked the house of a Village Defense Committee (VDC) member in Gunda, Rajouri at 3:10 am. A nearby army unit responded, leading to an exchange of fire.”
“Operations are ongoing,” the army added.
In a follow-up statement, the army said, “The Indian Army acted on intelligence, anticipating a threat to a Village Defence Guard in the remote Rajouri-Reasi area. Tactical teams swiftly intervened, ensuring the safety of the VDC member and his family. Operations are still underway, and a firefight is in progress.”
Media reports indicated that one soldier was injured and hospitalized, though there has been no official confirmation.
In recent months, there has been an increase in terror attacks in the Jammu region. Last Thursday, army troops fired upon detecting suspicious movement near the Line of Control in the Sunderbani area of Rajouri.
Additionally, in a separate incident, two army soldiers were injured during an encounter with terrorists in the Kastigarh area of the Doda district.
