Video: Egypt urges US to prevent escalation in Lebanon

Egypt is actively involved in efforts to prevent a potential escalation between Israel and Hezbollah, according to a report. The Egyptian government has been in contact with both the United States and Cyprus to address concerns arising from Hezbollah’s warnings against Israel’s use of Cypriot territory in a conflict with Lebanon.

Reports from al-Akhbar newspaper indicate that Egyptian officials from the foreign ministry and intelligence services have engaged with the US to mitigate escalating signals from Israel. The focus of these discussions has been on the grave consequences that could result from any conflict on the Lebanese front.

A senior Egyptian official emphasized the importance of taking Hezbollah’s statements seriously and urged the US to recognize the potential for significant military actions by Hezbollah. The priority, as conveyed by Egyptian sources, is to prevent the outbreak of war and to manage the aftermath effectively.

The article further notes US efforts to prevent the conflict from spreading, shifting the focus from mere triggers to the broader implications of any military engagement. It mentions US plans to dispatch a senior delegation promptly to meet with Israeli officials and conduct a regional tour aimed at de-escalation.

Egypt’s intelligence chief, Abbas Kamel, is expected to assume a more prominent role in addressing the Lebanese situation, potentially leading to an Egyptian intelligence delegation visiting Beirut soon, as reported by al-Akhbar.

Egypt has also communicated with Cyprus, receiving assurances that Cyprus does not intend to take actions against Lebanon or support Israel in any conflict.
