Le Drian to visit Lebanon urgently ahead of US-French summit

French officials are making urgent efforts to arrange a visit to Lebanon by Jean-Yves Le Drian, the French President’s Special Envoy to Lebanon. The aim is to “stir the stagnant waters and reinvigorate the efforts of the five-nation committee, which have started to falter,” according to prominent political sources.

These sources, speaking to al-Joumhouria newspaper, noted that “the activities of the quintet’s ambassadors are currently on hold.”

Additionally, the Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alaa Moussa, mentioned that “an upcoming U.S.-French summit will include discussions about Lebanon.”

Moussa emphasized the importance of Lebanese political forces expediting the presidential election process, noting that the U.S. administration will soon be focused on its own presidential election starting in June.
