An Israeli airstrike in Rafah, Gaza, has tragically resulted in the deaths of 22 individuals, including an infant and a toddler, overnight into Monday, as reported by medical personnel at Abu Youssef Al Najjar hospital.

Following the airstrike, the victims’ bodies were transported to the hospital, where grieving families convened to mourn. Disturbing scenes unfolded in the hospital courtyard, captured in a video for CNN, displaying several body bags on the ground, surrounded by distraught relatives. Emotional moments were shared as mourners touched the bodies of their deceased family members. Heartbreakingly, a baby was visible, partially out of a body bag, with a woman crying out in anguish over the loss of her entire family.

One of the mourners, Mahmoud Abu Taha, shared his grief with CNN, lamenting the unexpected attack that struck while families were asleep, noting that many of the victims were women and children, and displaced individuals seeking refuge. Holding up the body of a baby boy, he expressed his sorrow and outrage, questioning the intent behind targeting such young lives.

In response to CNN’s inquiry about the incident in Rafah, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that their fighter jets had targeted areas in southern Gaza where terrorists were reported to be operating amongst civilians. The IDF emphasized its commitment to disrupting terrorist activities and safeguarding Israeli civilians, asserting that their actions align with international law.
