4 UN Peacekeepers Injured in Southern Lebanon

On Tuesday, four United Nations peacekeepers were injured in southern Lebanon after a rocket hit their base. Another peacekeeping base was also struck by rockets, and a patrol came under fire.

The UN’s peacekeeping mission, UNIFIL, reported that a rocket, likely launched by non-state actors in Lebanon, hit the Ghanaian contingent’s base near Ramyah village in the east. Four peacekeepers were injured, with three requiring hospitalization.

In the southern village of Shamaa, where intense fighting between Hezbollah and Israeli forces is ongoing, five rockets damaged UNIFIL’s Sector West Headquarters. This marked the second attack on the base in just a week, although no injuries were reported.

Additionally, an armed individual fired directly at a UNIFIL patrol near Khirbet Selm, but fortunately, no one was harmed.

UNIFIL stated that investigations have been initiated for each of these incidents, and the Lebanese Army has been informed. The mission reiterated its call for all parties involved in the conflict to respect the safety and sanctity of United Nations peacekeepers and facilities.
