The Weeknd is set to be the main act for Fortnite’s upcoming music event, ‘The Weeknd x Fortnite Festival,’ with a trailer now available for viewing

The Weeknd, also known by his real name Abel Tesfaye, features in a newly released trailer for Festival, a music-focused game developed by Rock Band creators Harmonix. Set to premiere in Fortnite on Saturday, December 9th, Festival offers players an interactive music experience. Fans can engage with the game by tapping notes to the rhythm of the song as they watch The Weeknd perform live on stage, with options to play along with the band or enjoy a solo performance.

The 44-second trailer showcases a hooded figure, wearing a metallic mask reminiscent of Dr. Doom, being transported from a dark setting to a lively club. The figure, revealed to be a digital version of Tesfaye, then heads to the stage, catching a microphone tossed by an audience member with punk-style hair. The trailer culminates with Tesfaye performing his song “Take My Breath” from the album Dawn FM, accompanied by a futuristic band and showcasing various skins.

Hypebeast reports leaks indicating that The Weeknd x Fortnite Festival will introduce new in-game items, including a unique microphone design, two new bass designs, three songs, a keytar design, and a special Weeknd skin available through a Festival Pass.

This collaboration marks The Weeknd as the latest in a series of artists to partner with Fortnite for musical events, following virtual concerts by eminent artists like Eminem, Ariana Grande, Travis Scott, Marshmello, and Kid Cudi. Earlier in April, Coachella also collaborated with Fortnite to create Coachella Island, a virtual space within the Fortnite world that featured mini-games, themed merchandise, art installations, and digital renditions of the festival’s iconic ferris wheel and the Spectra building.

With Fortnite Festival, the game introduces its first mode centered explicitly around music, adding to the game’s immense popularity evidenced by over 129 million downloads on the App Store and Google Play.
