The United States is reportedly pursuing a “comprehensive pacification” effort in the region, as revealed by Israel’s Channel 12 in an unannounced move.
These efforts are said to focus on achieving calm across all regional fronts, and, as of now, Israel is not actively involved in these discussions, according to the channel.
Channel 12 cited senior Israeli officials who said they recently learned of talks between the United States, Arab countries, and Iran, involving a potential comprehensive ceasefire. This ceasefire would cover multiple conflicts, including the Israeli escalation in Lebanon and the support fronts launched by Houthi forces from Yemen and pro-Iran factions in Iraq.
It remains unclear whether these efforts will also include the Gaza front.
The report mentioned that “Israel has not yet participated in these talks nor communicated its stance to the United States.”
Senior Israeli officials were quoted as saying, “Israel is currently in a position of strength,” and that any ceasefire would be on its terms, which would include the withdrawal of Hezbollah forces to north of the Litani River and the dismantling of all military facilities of the group in border areas.
This news comes as Israel prepares to respond to the missile attack carried out by Iran on October 1, while reports indicate that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, after a long period of absence, is communicating with mediators to explore potential opportunities to restart negotiations.
