The UN has issued a warning that Gaza is becoming uninhabitable

Southern Gaza was the target of Israeli bombings early Saturday, as the United Nations declared the region “uninhabitable” due to the ongoing three-month conflict.

This war, sparked by the October 7 attacks by Hamas militants on southern Israel, has heightened regional tensions and shows no sign of abating as it enters its fourth month.

The civilian population of the Hamas-governed Gaza Strip has suffered the most, facing mass displacement, destruction, and a worsening humanitarian situation. The U.N. humanitarian head, Martin Griffiths, stated on Friday that Gaza has essentially become uninhabitable.

Israeli forces conducted airstrikes early Saturday on Rafah, a southern city where many have taken refuge. Military spokesman Daniel Hagari confirmed ongoing operations throughout Gaza.

A Palestinian resident, Abou Mohammed, expressed a bleak outlook for Gaza’s future as the war nears its fourth month.

– Hospital Struggles Under Pressure –

The conflict began with an intense Hamas attack on October 7, reportedly killing about 1,140 people, mostly civilians. Israel claims the militants took approximately 250 hostages, with 132 still captive and at least 24 presumed dead.

Israel’s response, including bombings and a ground invasion, has led to at least 22,600 deaths, predominantly women and children, as per the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry.

The Palestinian Red Crescent reported shelling and drone attacks near Al-Amal hospital in Khan Yunis, resulting in the deaths of seven displaced individuals, including a newborn.

The World Health Organization (WHO) notes that most of Gaza’s hospitals are inoperable due to the conflict, and the functioning ones are overwhelmed and facing shortages.

A spokesperson for the Al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital in central Gaza highlighted the humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the outbreak of diseases.

The UN and WHO recently delivered medical supplies to Gaza, with WHO coordinator Sean Casey emphasizing the critical shortage in hospitals.

The Israeli military reported its success in targeting terrorists and destroying tunnels in Khan Yunis over the past day.

Israel maintains that Hamas militants use civilian areas for cover, including schools and hospitals.

During a raid in Gaza City, Israeli troops discovered military vests hidden in a medical clinic.

– Diplomatic Efforts –

International diplomats are working to increase aid to Gaza and reduce tensions.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is in Turkey for talks, including discussions on the Gaza conflict with President Erdogan. He also plans to visit Arab states, Israel, and the West Bank to discuss humanitarian aid for Gaza.

EU diplomat Josep Borrell is holding talks in Beirut, while Germany’s Annalena Baerbock is set to visit the region. French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna criticized Israeli ministers’ remarks on resettling Gazans, stating that Gaza’s future is not for Israel to decide.
