UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres voiced strong disapproval on Sunday regarding opposition to the concept of a two-state solution in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He emphasized that denying the Palestinian people’s right to statehood is unacceptable. In a social media post, Guterres stated, “The refusal to accept the two-state solution for Israelis and Palestinians and the denial of the right to statehood for the Palestinian people are unacceptable.” He further insisted on the necessity of recognizing the Palestinian people’s right to establish their own state.
This statement came in response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent remarks. Netanyahu had expressed his intent to maintain security control over all territories west of the Jordan River, a stance that conflicts with the establishment of a Palestinian state. Additionally, Israel’s National Security Minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, echoed a similar sentiment in a separate social media post, firmly stating his opposition to a Palestinian state with the words, “I do deny a Palestinian state. Always!”
