On Monday, the last day of the four-day ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, a fragile quiet settled over the border area in south Lebanon. This period of relative peace was briefly disrupted by Israeli shelling in the southern town of Marwahin overnight.
Although Lebanon and Hezbollah were not official participants in the ceasefire, it resulted in a temporary cessation of the frequent rocket fire, artillery bombardment, and air strikes that had been occurring.
During a visit to northern Israel on Sunday, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant assured that residents could return home safely. Gallant reported that Israeli forces had successfully targeted over 100 Hezbollah fighters and destroyed numerous observation posts, storage facilities, bunkers, and command centers. He commended the soldiers for their work in the eastern sector of Lebanon, near Syria, stating that their efforts had pushed back Hezbollah forces from the front line, allowing residents to return to their homes.
The recent cross-border skirmishes have led to 109 deaths in Lebanon, including at least 77 Hezbollah fighters and 14 civilians. The violence has also caused over 55,000 people to flee their homes in the region.
On the Israeli side, the conflict has resulted in the deaths of six soldiers and three civilians.
