Spain’s Euro 2024 winning captain Alvaro Morata signs with AC Milan

On Friday, Alvaro Morata completed his transfer to AC Milan from Atletico Madrid, just days after helping Spain win Euro 2024.

The 31-year-old striker has agreed to a four-year contract with Milan, stepping in to fill the void left by Olivier Giroud, who recently moved to Los Angeles FC.

“Morata has joined the Rossoneri until June 30, 2028, with an option for an additional year,” Milan announced in a statement.

According to Italian media, Milan activated Morata’s 13-million-euro ($14.2 million) release clause. The player is set to earn approximately 4.5 million euros per season.

Morata participated in every match of Spain’s successful Euro 2024 campaign, scoring his only goal in a 3-0 victory over Croatia that marked the start of their tournament in Germany. He has 36 goals in 80 appearances for the national team.

This move marks Morata’s return to Italy after two previous stints with Juventus, where he won two league titles and three Italian Cups.

Throughout his career, Morata has also won the FA Cup with Chelsea and was part of Real Madrid’s Champions League-winning squads in 2014 and 2017.

Milan, who finished second in Serie A last season, 19 points behind champions Inter Milan, will start their league season under new coach Paulo Fonseca with a home match against Torino on August 17.
