Paris Olympics 2024: Sha’Carri Richardson sets year’s fastest 100m time in US Olympic trials

Sha’Carri Richardson is gearing up for the Paris Olympics 2024 after securing her spot by setting a record time in the 100m event at the U.S. trials.

“I’m honored,” said Richardson. “Every chapter of my life has prepared me for this moment.”

She expressed her excitement about representing her country in Paris, marking her first Olympic appearance. Richardson was initially set to compete in the Tokyo Olympics but was disqualified after testing positive for marijuana.

Reflecting on her journey, Richardson noted, “Over the past three years, I’ve gained a better understanding of myself, developed a deeper respect for my talent in the sport, and recognized my responsibility to those who support me.”

Richardson’s redemption came when she won her first major title at the 2023 World Championships in Bucharest, Hungary, clocking 10.65 seconds to clinch the gold medal.

Looking ahead to the Paris games, the 24-year-old sprinter remains confident in her training without setting specific targets. “I don’t put a time on myself. I just know that if I execute the race I’ve prepared for, the time will come,” she said.

At the U.S. trials, Richardson overcame a slow start to surge ahead, finishing in 10.80 seconds, ahead of Melissa Jefferson (10.80) and Twanisha Terry (10.89).
