Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is facing charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, appeared in court on Friday to request bail once again. However, the judge postponed the decision until next week. This marks Combs’ third attempt to secure bail after previous requests were denied. Prosecutors have argued against his release, claiming that while incarcerated, Combs has contacted witnesses and used unauthorized communication methods.
The federal charges against Combs, 55, include allegations of sexually abusing women and coercing them into participating in drug-fueled sex parties, with threats and violence. Combs has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and his trial is set to begin on May 5, 2025.
Judge Arun Subramanian is expected to make a ruling on the bail request next week, and until then, Combs will remain in prison. Outside the Manhattan courthouse, protesters shouted accusations at Combs’ mother, Janice Combs, calling her son a predator, while other family members were present.
Combs’ legal team has pointed to the case of former Abercrombie CEO Mike Jeffries, who was granted bail in a similar federal sex trafficking case, arguing that their client should receive the same treatment. However, prosecutors countered, noting the significant differences between the two cases. They highlighted that, unlike Jeffries, Combs faces charges related to violent acts and the use of firearms, as well as leading a racketeering operation, which Jeffries’ case does not include.
Prosecutors have also indicated that they are still gathering evidence and may add more charges to the indictment. Public accusations against Combs have been mounting, especially after singer Cassie, whose full name is Casandra Ventura, accused him of subjecting her to years of coercion, physical abuse, drug use, and a 2018 rape.
