Retired Armed Forces Block Roads in Salary Protest

On Tuesday, retired members of the armed forces demonstrated against their inadequate pensions by barricading the Karantina road with flaming tires. One of the protesters voiced their fundamental request: “Our demand is to live in dignity.”

Those who have served in the armed forces, along with all public sector employees, receive their pensions in Lebanese pounds. However, the value of their pensions has drastically diminished, making it increasingly difficult to afford basic necessities. This financial strain is exacerbated by the fact that grocery stores and other commercial entities are now setting their prices in dollars, further diminishing the purchasing power of their pensions.
