Fans of Gotham City’s dark underbelly are eagerly anticipating Colin Farrell’s turn in the series “The Penguin.” Despite hopes to the contrary, Robert Pattinson will not be returning as Batman in this series.
Lauren LeFranc, the showrunner, spoke to SFX magazine about why Pattinson’s Batman won’t be featured. She expressed understanding of fans’ wishes to see Batman but emphasized that the series aims to offer a different perspective.
“Matt [Reeves, director of ‘The Batman’] films from the viewpoint of Batman, so you’re high up, looking down on the city. It’s a different perspective,” LeFranc explained. She contrasted this with the new series, which takes place on the gritty streets of Gotham, seen from the eyes of Oswald Cobblepot, aka Penguin, as he aspires to rise to the top of the underworld.
The show will delve into the life of Oswald Cobblepot, the notorious Gotham City gangster. According to a synopsis from Screenrant, the series picks up shortly after “The Batman,” focusing on Penguin’s ascent in Gotham’s criminal hierarchy as he battles for control of the Falcone crime family with the daughter of his deceased boss, Carmine Falcone.
“The Penguin” is set to premiere on HBO Max on September 19.
