Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated Donald Trump on his declared U.S. presidential victory, calling it “history’s greatest comeback” and a fresh start for the U.S.-Israel relationship. Netanyahu praised Trump’s anticipated return to the White House as a chance for America and Israel to renew their strong alliance, expressing it as a “huge victory.”
Other Israeli leaders extended similar messages. Israel’s new Defense Minister Israel Katz congratulated Trump on X, committing to strengthening the U.S.-Israel partnership, supporting hostage rescues, and opposing threats from Iran. President Isaac Herzog also offered his congratulations, noting he looked forward to reinforcing the bond between the two nations, fostering peace and security in the Middle East, and upholding shared values.
This exchange of statements follows Netanyahu’s decision to dismiss Defense Minister Yoav Gallant due to disagreements over handling the conflict with Hamas in Gaza. Gallant had advocated for both a ceasefire and a hostage release in Gaza, views that reportedly conflicted with Netanyahu’s approach. Gallant’s removal led to public demonstrations in Tel Aviv, where protesters called for the safe return of hostages held in Gaza.
Gideon Saar, recently named as Foreign Minister, also voiced support for Trump, commending his leadership and expressing hopes for enhanced security and cooperation in the region.
