In the lead-up to the upcoming US presidential elections, SpaceX’s CEO Elon Musk expressed a viewpoint that echoes sentiments of former President Donald Trump, who is gearing up to contest against the current President, Joe Biden. Musk, known for his criticisms of Biden, emphasized the necessity for a strong Republican presence in the next election, suggesting that without it, the future of the United States could be in jeopardy.
Musk, who once exclusively supported Democratic candidates, has shifted his stance, advocating for a “red wave” on the social media platform X, indicating a preference for Republican victory to avert what he sees as potential downfall for America.
Musk’s critiques of Biden have been public and frequent, particularly targeting Biden’s management of issues at the Southern border and alleging Democratic bias towards union interests. Despite voting for Biden in the 2020 election, Musk’s opinion soured following an apparent snub of Tesla at a 2021 electric vehicle summit hosted by the President.
At The New York Times Dealbook Summit in November, Musk stated his intention not to vote for Biden in the upcoming election, while also clarifying that this doesn’t necessarily mean he would support Trump.
Amidst speculation, Musk and Trump have both acknowledged a recent meeting, although Musk clarified in an interview that Trump did not seek financial backing nor did he offer to pay for Trump’s legal expenses.
Musk mentioned his intention to deliberate carefully before potentially endorsing a candidate, promising to outline his reasoning should he choose to do so.
Additionally, a March report from The Washington Post highlighted Trump’s proposition to sell his social media venture, Truth Social, to Musk. Despite the talks not leading to an agreement, Trump reportedly believed Musk, who now owns X (formerly Twitter), would be a suitable buyer for Truth Social, as per discussions revealed by sources close to Trump.
