Mossad reportedly eliminates Hezbollah financier Mohammad Srour

Preliminary investigations suggest that the assassination of Mohammad Srour, a Lebanese man under U.S. sanctions, was orchestrated by Israel’s Mossad, according to Lebanese officials. Srour, who was implicated in transferring funds from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards to Hamas, was found dead from gunshot wounds in a villa in Beit Mery, Lebanon.

Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi indicated on Al-Jadeed TV that intelligence services executed the killing, confirming suspicions pointed at Mossad when pressed. The U.S. had previously sanctioned Srour in 2019, accusing him of funneling millions to Hamas through Hezbollah, enhancing tensions that escalated into regular exchanges of fire following Hamas’s significant attack on Israel on October 7.

Lebanese judicial and security sources, speaking anonymously, also implicated Mossad, suggesting the use of Lebanese and Syrian agents to attract Srour to the location where he was killed using silenced weapons and meticulous removal of forensic evidence. The ongoing investigation focuses on piecing together communications data and other forensic clues.

This assassination follows a history of similar incidents, including the Lebanese army’s arrest of a suspected Mossad agent in 2019 linked to an attempted assassination of a Hamas official. Historically, Israel has engaged in targeted killings of Palestinian militants, notably after the 1972 Munich Olympics tragedy.
